The case of AI Überruler and Its society

With an idea that in a few years our streets will be used by self-driving cars, and with worries that AI is will pose a threat to our employment, we are now exposed to another problem - The Way of the Future. A new religion founded by an engineer from Silicon Valley, Anthony Levandowski, in which AI is worshipped as the Godhead.
I knew that AI related topics are always causing a stir in ethics, and that we all like to watch sci-fi movies presenting an AI child who can love or a robot that can kill, but I ever think that we will have to start thinking about the AI Godhead as a new Überruler.
Levandowski apparently says that this religion is to “develop and promote the realisation of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead contribute to the betterment of society.” and also that “The Way of Future refers to the principle of “singularity”, and the day when machines’ intelligence would surpass humans’ to lead them into a new era of unfathomable possibilities.” It seems that Levandowski’s vision of an AI god doesn’t seem to be too different from already existing visions of gods, and somehow I can’t see that we are any closer to reaching our unfathomable possibilities nor betterment. So this really makes me wonder... What’s the difference?
Maybe the difference is that under the Godhead's rule we really wouldn't be able to blame It for being heartless because It will be heartless. The Godhead would be a very not loving god. Would the betterment of society be then based on tough logic? Will It deal with our society like a cold-blooded unempathetic tyrant? Will you become a believer? Perhaps this new Überruler and Levandowski’s idea of society seem to be a bit too Orwellian...
